One of the women pictured dancing for Sun City inmates says she regularly performs with recording artists.
While Busi Mahlangu and her fellow dancers were invited to perform at a youth-month event at the Sun City prison in Johannesburg, they were not paid for their show.
Speaking to The Sowetan, Mahlangu said the term ‘strippers’ was used to wrongly label her and the Sexy Lingerie and Boys from Mofolo group. She pointed out they were professional dancers who even had international bookings and were paid for their work.
“We were a group of three girls and three guys, and the pictures that are circulating only show me and another female dancer. We were not even aware that someone was taking pictures of us, and we were shocked that we are now being called strippers.
“This has affected us very badly because this is our work, and we get paid for it. This will affect our reputation because we also get international bookings.”
Mahlangu added the people who exposed their performance deliberately did so to settle scores, though she did not elaborate on what those scores were.
