The First Lady wore a yellow Pucci dress while meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Melania Trump joined her husband on Monday afternoon to greet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House. She stepped outside her sartorial comfort zone, wearing a yellow floor-length, floral dress by Emilio Pucci with a thick belt cinching her waist. The dress was a departure from her usual fashion preferences of knee-length dresses and solid, neutral hues.
This wouldn’t be her first time making headlines for braving a bold print, however. In late May, during her trip abroad with President Trump, she arrived in Sicily wearing a bright floral jacket by Dolce & Gabbana, which reportedly sold for $51,000. The controversial Italian designer, Stefano Gabbana, thanked Trump for wearing the jacket, calling her a #DGwoman.
Melania Trump has been quickly settling into D.C. life since moving to the city full time earlier this month, and she’s already making herself a presence in her husband’s meetings, including yesterday’s with Modi. Last Tuesday she welcomed the president of Panama, Juan Carlos Varela, and his wife, Lorena Castillo Varela. Thus far she hasn’t been using these meetings as opportunities for fashion diplomacy—but there are three-and-a-half years, probably, left to figure that out.
