Swedish sports car maker Koenigsegg Automotive AB unveiled its halo car project, the Regera plug-in hybrid sports car, at the 86th Geneva Motor Show in 2016. The company announced only 80 units of the Regera. Now Koenigsegg has claimed all units of the $1.9 million model have found owners.
According to the car maker, Regera program is the largest single vehicle series in Koenigsegg's history. The Regera sits alongside Koenigsegg's more track-focused road car, the Agera RS. "The Regera is a new high watermark for Koenigsegg Automotive" said company founder and CEO, Christian von Koenigsegg. "It has been our greatest technical challenge and as such, it is also our greatest technical triumph."
The first Regera is in classic British Racing Green colour. The second Regera flaunts a combination of candy apple red with a carbon centre section and candy apple red hood stripe. Both vehicles were on display at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March.
The Regera is based on reworked Agera chassis. The vehicle is powered by a 5.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 backed by three electric motors. The hybrid develops over 1,500 hp output and over 2,000Nm of torque. The engine is mated to Koenigsegg Direct Drive system in place of traditional transmission. The system eliminates weight, complexity and mechanical losses that come with a traditional gearbox.
Koenigsegg has developed a clutch slip mechanism for Regera that uses a hydraulic coupling to convert torque at medium or high speeds during fast acceleration. This allows the combustion engine to gain high revs and power when you open the throttle.
Regera hit 0 to 100kmph in 2.8 seconds, 0 to 200kmph in just 6.6 seconds, 0 to 300kmph in a blistering 10.9 seconds, and 0 to 400kmph in 20 seconds.
