Skoda Octavia RS

Skoda has had the Octavia RS in India when it introduced the first Octavia to the Indian market in the early 2000s. Since then, the Octavia RS has been a favourite amongst enthusiasts for its turbocharged petrol engine, sporty suspension and loads of power. The latest Generation Skoda RS is in the making and it will be brought to India soon.

The Skoda Octavia is a D-Segment sedan. It is plush and luxurious and when it gets the RS badge, it becomes manic as well. The Octavia RS is the performance avatar of the everyday sedan and is known for its dynamic ability across the globe. In India we have had the Skoda Octavia RS with the first generation car that was launched in the early 2000s.

The Skoda Octavia RS features the same overall design as the standard car but with much sportier overtones. It gets black headlights, sporty bumper with a mesh grille and a different design for the fog lamps. The Skoda moustache grille seems to flow into the front of the car and adds to the overall sporty appearance. On the sides, the Octavia RS has a similar profile to the standard car but gets sportier alloy wheels and consequently bigger tyres. The rear profile includes dual quad-shaped exhausts and a small rear wing that has been fitted to the boot door.

The RS gets all the features of the standard car in addition to sports-style bucket seats, a three-spoke steering wheel and ambient lighting. Dual-zone climate control and a touchscreen infotainment system also come as standard in the RS. We also expect features like paddle shifters, traction control and ESP to be standard on this car.

The RS version for Europe is powered by two engine options; petrol and a diesel. The petrol motor is a 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 220bhp power hitting 100kph in 6.8 seconds. The diesel engine is also a turbocharged 2.0-litre unit that develops 184bhp power and 380Nm torque aiding a 100kmph drag time in 8.1 seconds. For India though, we will get the 1.8-litre petrol only but we are not sure if it will be in the 220bhp set of tune or the latest 245bhp setup that was unveiled in Geneva.
