The compact crossover market is the most lucrative market in the country and Mahindra is leaving no stone unturned to tap into the numbers. After the launch of the sub-four-metre toughie TUV300 and the super compact SUV, the KUV100, Mahindra has showcased the Ssangyong Tivoli. The Mahindra owned Korean manufacturer has developed the Tivoli, a new compact SUV.
The Ssangyong Tivoli looks its part as an SUV with the decked up bonnet and the LED DRL eyebrows on the projector headlamps. The flared wheel arches, a tall shoulder line and the twin box cabin impart the right stance for the compact SUV. The tail is simple and yet looks interesting thanks to the LED tail lamps.
On the inside, the Tivoli gets a modern look. The dual tone interiors in black and silver look premium. The centre console might remind you of the EcoSport. Like the Ssangyong Rexton, the Tivoli will also be feature rich and gets dual-zone climate control, a 7-inch infotainment system and push-button start. Steering mounted audio controls, electrically operated wing mirrors and an auto-dimming internal rear view mirror will also be offered. The display car also had a sunroof – a feature that is not seen in this segment.
As for safety, the Tivoli has more than 70 per cent high-strength steel in its construction, seven airbags and electronic stability control programme. ABS and EBD may be standard across the range. Under the hood, you will have the 1.6-litre Falcon series engines available with both petrol and diesel fuel options. The 1.6-litre petrol develops 125bhp of power and 157Nm of torque while the diesel produces 113bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. The engines will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission and will power the front wheels. You may also get an automatic option and probably all-wheel-drive too.
The Tivoli will enter the space now dominated by the Hyundai Creta, the refreshed Renault Duster, the Nissan Terrano and the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross. Being in the same segment, Mahindra might price the Ssangyong Tivoli between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh to take on the competition.
