Volvo is testing the new XC60 extensively and the SUV is expected to hit the road early 2018. Like the S90 arrived after the XC60, we can also expect the new S60 by 2019. With the new Volvo cars coming of age with their striking new design, the S60 will certainly toe their line.
The 2019 S60 will be built on the new platform developed by Volvo which reduces weight further and also provides better ride and handling characteristics. Volvo’s have found a new design trademark which is aggressive and sleek at the same time. The Thor’s hammer LED headlamps look aggressive with the signature DRLs while the fascia, with the customary rectangular grille is rather homely.
The all-new interior of the S60 will certainly resemble the current S90. The upholstery will be in leather with wooden trims and brushed aluminium finishes for an opulent look. The waterfall centre console will have the massive vertical touchscreen that controls everything in the car except for the accelerator and the steering wheel. The simple 3-spoke steering wheel will be adjustable and get steering mounted controls.
Being a luxury car, it will get power seats, separate zone climate control, electric sunroof et al. along with the creative comforts, under the hood, you will have the latest 2.0-litre diesel engine that comes with the XC90 and S90 but might be offered with a slightly lower state of tune. It will come with front-biased all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The new S60 will compete against the likes of the BMW 3 Series, the Jaguar XE, the Audi A4 and the Mercedes C-Class. Like the S90, we can expect a competitive price tag in spite of it being a CBU.
