Jeep, starting with Willys produced the first civilian jeep in 1945. It is the only company that continued producing jeeps after the world war and are still doing so. Jeep also produces premium off-road SUVs. From this stable comes the Renegade, a small, fun and affordable 4x4 offering.
Exterior
The front of the Renegade features a high stance to tackle aggressive approach and departure angles. The vehicle is styled with the typical Jeep flat bonnet, round headlights and a vertical slotted grille. The side has square wheel arches and a high stance off the road. The flat rear end has square taillights. The Renegade also comes with 17-inch alloy wheels. On the whole, the Renegade combines typical Jeep brand styling, all in a smaller city-friendly package.
Interior
The Renegade comes with rugged cloth seats with different leather trim options, it will come with different colour seat materials as well as contrast stitching. The Uconnect 6.5 Nav system comes with a 6.5-inch touchscreen, AM/FM radio, AUX/USB media hub for iPod mobile device integration, sensor-assisted GPS, speed-adjusted volume and GPS navigation. The interior of the Renegade also comes with folding second-row seats offered as either a 60/40 split folding rear bench or a 40/20/40 split folding rear bench with cargo area pass-through. The front passenger seat also folds forward for even more luggage space.
Engine and gearbox
India is expected to get the Renegade with Multijet2 turbo-diesel engines. The 1.6-litre engine will have 116bhp and more than 300Nm of torque. While the 2-litre engine will get 136bhp and torque figure of upto 380Nm. Both engines are mated to 6-speed manual transmissions. If Jeep decides to get the 2-litre engine with the 9-speed automatic gearbox, the output figures will be 165bhp and around 380Nm.
Price and competition
Jeep will bring in the Renegade as a CKD unit, expect Jeep to price it between Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh. In India, it will compete against the BMW X1, Mini Countryman and the Mercedes-Benz GLA.
