The Range Rover is one of the most luxurious SUVs money can buy except for the Bentley Bentayga which is already sold out for the time being. The flagship SUV from Land Rover, the Tata-owned British marque, has been around officially for nearly a decade. The current generation Range Rover is due for its mid-life update globally and will come to India soon after.
The Range Rover update will be a cosmetic one and will carry forward the new styling trend set off by the Range Rover Evoque. The corners have been rounded and it now gets a raked fascia with signature LED DRLs. The DRLs might be tweaked for a fresher look along with the grille. The design of the alloys will be tweaked and so will be the tail lamp internals. The new Range Rover was built on a new chassis with fused materials to reduce the weight by about 400 kg to keep the weight in check and hence there would hardly be any changes to the mechanicals.
On the inside, the dash and the infotainment system will get a few tweaks along with a few changes that won’t probably meet your eye unless you look for them. It will get four-zone automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, fully electric seats, mirrors et al. Under the hood you will have the current engine options of the 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 diesel, the 4.4-litre turbocharged V8 diesel and the top of the line supercharged 5.0-litre petrol V8 engine. The car will be available in both standard and long wheel base iterations.
The Range Rover competes with the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and the Bentley Bentayga in terms of performance and luxury respectively. The facelift is expected to arrive by the end of 2017 and will carry a price tag upwards of Rs 2 crore, ex-showroom, Delhi.
